From a one-line idea to a whole story
Each ready story in the templates above is written as six beats for a whole comic. “The Midnight Case”, the ready story of the noir template, runs like this: a client slides a photo across the detective’s desk on a rainy night; nobody talks at the jazz club where a missing singer was last seen; a matchbook carries the number of the detective’s old precinct; a chase along the foggy docks ends in a near miss; the twist is that the singer staged the disappearance to expose a corrupt police captain; and the detective brings the evidence into the light.
You don’t have to write six beats: a few sentences are enough for the Story step. A one-line idea grows the same way, though. Say where it starts, what goes wrong, one clue or turn, and how it ends. “Every midnight the same song plays from an empty apartment” could open on the first night you hear it and close on the person who has been playing it.

Questions about comic story ideas
Where do these story ideas come from?
From Comicpix’s own story templates. Every idea is a story starter written for one of them, shown word for word with “your hero” and “your partner” where the names go. The list leaves out the template made for children’s birthday comics and the templates in other languages. In the create flow itself, the Story step’s Inspire Me button suggests more ideas for the characters you picked.
Is the comic idea generator AI?
No. It picks one idea at random from the list on this page and puts your names into it, in your browser; nothing you type into it is sent anywhere. The AI part starts when you make the comic.
Are these comic book story ideas for adults?
Yes, if you mean stories with a grown-up in the lead: Comicpix accounts are for adults (18+), and many ideas here have an adult hero, such as a detective’s last case, rivals at the same office or a retired hero called back. The template made for a child’s birthday comic is not on this list.
Can my partner be in the story too?
Yes. A comic can star two characters: your hero and an optional second character, each from one photo of a person or pet, or a ready-made character. The romance ideas are written for two; anniversary and how-we-met ideas are on the personalized comic book for couples page.
Can my pet be the hero?
Your pet can be the hero: use one photo of your dog or cat. The pet template’s story starters are on the personalized comic book page.
Do I have to use the idea word for word?
No. Pick a style, add a photo and a name, choose a story, and Comicpix draws your cover in about a minute. In the story step you can change any detail of the idea or write your own few sentences instead; you don’t need to draw or write dialogue.
Which style should I pick for my idea?
Each idea suggests the style of the template it comes from, and Make this comic starts in that style. Any style works with any idea, and one style is used for the whole comic; the comic art styles page shows them all with examples.
Is it free?
The cover preview is free; the full comic needs a monthly plan, and you can cancel online.
Have your own idea?
