Can I make a manga of myself from a photo?

Yes. Upload one photo of yourself and type your name, pick Manga in the Style step, and choose a story: a ready one, or your own in a few sentences. Comicpix draws a 12-page manga with you as the main character; the cover comes first, and the preview is free.

The manga style is black and white with screentone shading, as most manga is drawn. If you want color, the two closest styles have their own pages: photo to manhwa for soft gradients and glossy light, and anime comic of yourself for cel shading and luminous color.

After you unlock the comic with a monthly plan, the pages are drawn one by one and you read them as they arrive, online or as a PDF.

From a photo to a manga cover

“The Lantern Fox” was drawn from the photo of a ready-made sample character, not a customer, in the manga style.

These are our ready-made characters — AI-generated people, not customers. Your comic is drawn from your own photo.

“Echoes of Dread”: a wordless school horror, cover to page 4

From the Comicpix app’s story catalog in the manga style: at school, Sera sees a shadow creature clinging to Jace, the boy in the letterman jacket, and nobody else in the hallway notices a thing. Your comic starts from your photo instead.

What the manga style looks like in Comicpix

Comicpix draws the manga style in black and white: crisp ink lines, screentone shading, speed lines, expressive faces and dynamic angles. Screentone is the dotted and hatched pattern that stands in for color and gives manga pages their printed look.

Noir is the only other black-and-white style, with muted sepia accents, heavy shadows and rain; every other style in the comic art styles list is in color.

Every style is an illustration. Your face is drawn from your photo, and the free cover preview is where you check the likeness.

Pick the genre: action, horror or your own story

The style sets the look; your story sets the genre. The English manga examples on this page sit far apart: “Echoes of Dread” is a wordless school horror that follows a girl’s dread as a shadow creature grows behind a classmate nobody else can see, and “The Lantern Fox” is a night-market fantasy in which a fox made of lantern light leads the hero into the alleys.

Story starters for a solo hero from our templates: a samurai who finds an ancient power in a forbidden temple and must choose between power and honor; a courier whose stolen memory chip turns out to hold her own forgotten past; two rival students at a magic academy forced to share one very rude familiar; a secret street tournament against rivals who control the elements; a mysterious cat that teaches you a forbidden sword technique.

You can also write your own in a few sentences, and you can add a second character from a second photo: a friend, a sibling or a partner.

Questions about manga comics

Is it black and white?

Yes. The manga style is drawn in black and white with screentone shading, speed lines and crisp ink lines. For a color comic, pick manhwa or anime instead; the comic art styles page compares all 12.

Can I be the main character?

Yes. Your photo and your name go into the hero slot in the Cast step, so the story is about you. You see yourself in your own manga on the cover before you pay.

Is it free?

The cover preview is free; the full 12-page comic needs a monthly plan, and you can cancel online. Plans start at $6.99 a month.

Can I pick the genre?

Yes. The style only sets the look; the story you pick or write sets the genre: action, school horror, a tournament, a quiet slice of life. “Echoes of Dread” and “The Lantern Fox” on this page show a wordless horror and a night-market fantasy in the same black-and-white manga style.

How many pages?

On the web, every comic has 12 pages: the cover is drawn first, then the pages are drawn one by one after you unlock it, to read online or download as a PDF.

Can a friend be in it too?

Yes. A comic can star two characters: your hero and an optional second character, each from one photo of a person or pet, or a ready-made character.
