Comicpix vs Dashtoon: making your own comic vs reading series

Dashtoon is a place to read comic, manga and manhwa series, and its own site says its creation tool, Dashtoon Studio, closed on 15 August 2026; Comicpix is a maker that draws a comic starring you or someone you know from one photo. Comicpix makes this page and is one of the tools compared.

The short answer

They do different jobs. Dashtoon describes itself as a place to read and create comics, manga and manhwa online, and its apps are built around reading series; its App Store listing says new episodes come out weekly. Comicpix doesn’t host series at all. It makes one comic, with a real person as the main character, from a photo, a name and a short story.

So if you want something new to read tonight, Dashtoon fits and Comicpix doesn’t. If you want to see yourself, your partner or your dog in a manhwa, Comicpix fits and Dashtoon’s reading apps don’t. Every Dashtoon fact here comes from dashtoon.com or its App Store listing, linked under the table and checked on 26 October 2026.

What happened to Dashtoon Studio?

Dashtoon’s own Create page, checked on 26 October 2026, says that Dashtoon Studio shut down on 15 August 2026 and is no longer available, and that creation continues on Frameo, Dashtoon’s platform for AI video and short drama. The reading side is a separate thing: dashtoon.com still lists comics to read, and its home page still links its iPhone and Android apps.

If you used Studio to make comics and want to keep making comics rather than video, Dashtoon alternatives lists tools for that, in order of how much of the making you control. For every tool side by side, see AI comic makers compared.

Where Dashtoon is stronger

Something to read. Dashtoon has a catalog of series across romance, fantasy, drama, action, horror and more, with new episodes every week according to its App Store listing, and the app itself is free to download. Comicpix has no catalog of series to read; its examples are sample comics that show what it draws.

Ongoing stories. A Dashtoon series keeps going episode after episode. A Comicpix comic is one finished story; for another chapter, you make another comic.

If you read manhwa and want to star in one

This is the one place the two meet. Comicpix draws manhwa, the full-color Korean style, with you as the lead: add one photo of yourself, or two for a couple, pick a ready story such as “Let It Rain” or write your own, and see your cover in about a minute before you pay. It draws pages, not a vertical-scroll strip, and the whole comic stays in one style.

The photo to manhwa page shows the style page by page, and manga vs manhwa vs webtoon explains how the three formats differ.

How to make your own manhwa on Comicpix

  1. Choose manhwa

Or anime, manga, romance, fantasy and other styles. One style is used for the whole comic.

  2. Add the cast

A photo and a name for your hero, and an optional second character, such as your partner.

  3. Pick or write the story

A ready story or a few sentences: how you met, a rainy-day romance, a rivalry that turns into something else.

  4. See your cover, then unlock

Not with Dashtoon Studio, according to its Create page; it points to Frameo, which it describes as a platform for AI video and short drama. For tools that still make comics, see Dashtoon alternatives.
