An ordinary morning: Sera walks down the school hallway, then takes her seat in a classroom full of laughing students.
A wisp of black smoke curls off Jace’s shoulder. Sera freezes, her hand over her mouth.
Between classmates who see nothing, a clawed shadow towers behind Jace. Sera screams without a sound.
Jace smiles and waves, the creature grinning over his shoulder — and in the last panel Sera’s own face begins to crack.
